The Story of the Iconic Tom Delonge Stratocaster

The history and background of Tom DeLonge and his involvement with Fender is an interesting topic. Tom DeLonge is best known as the guitarist and vocalist for the band Blink-182, one of the most successful punk-pop bands of the 90s and 2000s. He has also been involved in several other musical projects, including the band Angels & Airwaves.

As a musician, DeLonge has always been known for his high-energy, aggressive guitar playing style, which influenced his collaboration with Fender in creating his signature model guitar.

The design and aesthetic choices of the guitar, such as the large 1970s CBS headstock, is one of the most recognizable features of the Tom DeLonge Stratocaster. The large headstock gives the guitar a unique look and gives it a different feel from a standard Stratocaster. Additionally, the guitar features a sleek, modern design with a lightweight alder body and a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard.

The combination of these features makes for a guitar that is both visually striking and comfortable to play.

The differences between the American and Mexican made versions of the Tom DeLonge Stratocaster are also worth mentioning. While the American made version was fitted with an American 2-Point tremolo system and Sperzel locking tuners, the Mexican made version featured a hardtail bridge and stock Kluson-style tuners made by Ping.

While both versions offer high-quality craftsmanship and great playability, the American made version is considered more premium and is sought after by collectors.

The Squier version of the Tom DeLonge Stratocaster is also worth noting. This version of the guitar is a more affordable option for those who are interested in the style and sound of the guitar, but may not be able to afford the Fender version. It features a Duncan Designed Detonator pickup, which is a cheaper version of the Seymour Duncan Invader pickup found on the Fender version.

Additionally, the Squier version has a standard white pick-guard, as opposed to the pearloid pick-guard found on the Fender version.

Lastly, it is worth mentioning that Tom DeLonge’s signature Stratocaster has been discontinued and it has been rumored that he might re-continue his signature stratocaster because of various 2010 photos of Tom in the studio and with a Stratocaster and same colors as his signatures, but this has been since proven false.

Despite this, the Tom DeLonge Stratocaster remains a popular and sought-after guitar among fans of Blink-182, punk and alternative rock music.
